What Diet to take with Yoga


Yogic Diet
Food plays a very important role in exciting the senses and passions. A yogi should be
very careful in the selection of articles of diet of Sattvic nature in the beginning of his yoga
period. Later on drastic dietetic restrictions can be removed. Havis Annam, which is a mixture of
boiled white rice and oil, is very good to Yogic practices. When white rice is boiled with
oil, white sugar and milk, it is called Cheru. This is a combination is very much suitable for yogis.

Milk is a full food by itself, containing the different nutritive constituents, fats, vitamins and proteins,
carbohydrates, etc., in well-balanced proportions. It leaves very little residue in the bowels. This is
an ideal food for Yogis during yoga practice. Fresh milk should be boiled before being used
 The process of medium boiling is that the milk should be immediately removed from the fire, as
soon as the boiling point is reached. Too much boiling destroys very valuable nutritious items in milk

A fruit diet exercises a calm, soothing influence on the mind and body and is very much desirable
diet for Yogis. This is a natural form of diet. Bananas, grapes, sweet oranges, apples and
pomegranates are best fruits. Bananas are very nutritious. Lemons possess antiscorbutic
properties and act as restoratives to blood. Fruit juices contains a form of nutritive principle, Vitamin
