What is tadasana
Puma Tadasana is a standing
posture of yoga
The standing yoga poses teach the basics of position, attentiveness, and
organization. They help set up groundwork for many of the other poses.
Standing poses should be part of a daily practice. One typically jumps
into these poses, but you need not jump into a pose to obtain the
benefits. If you have back or knee injuries or are pregnant, do not jump
into the pose. A number of the standing poses are exciting. Standing
poses can be tiring, and some are more so than others. Always come out
of a pose if you feel exhausted or tired.
Tadasana or The Yoga Mountain Pose
Many of the poses in yoga are named after animals, birds, or elements,
such as the most basic pose, Tadasana. Tada means "mountain," and asana,
"posture." Just as a mountain symbolizes steadiness and stability,
Tadasana is the steady, stable pose that sets the basis for all the
other poses.
The majority of yoga lessons begin with Tadasana. The pose roots the
body to the ground, permitting it to grow or to stand tall. Think of it
as a kind of natural position between your feet, which are firmly
planted on the earth or ground, and your head, which reaches toward the
sky, connecting everything in between. Good posture is paramount in
yoga, and Tadasana is your first lesson or pose on posture.
Tadasana or The Yoga Mountain Pose balances the body and focuses
the mind.
Instructions:
1. Stand with your feet together or slightly apart. The weight of your
body should be evenly distributed between the toes, balls, and heels of
your feet.
2. Keep your knees as straight as possible without locking them. Pay
attention to your stomach, but do not suck it in or let it hang down.
3. Keep your shoulders and arms calm and straight. Arms remain at your
sides.
4. Your head should look directly ahead. Do not pull your neck muscles.
5. Cam down your eyes and try to arrange the body from head to toe as
you take breaths. Your inhalation should be clear and strong as it moves
through you.
6. Your inhalation and exhalation should be natural, giving you a sense
of relaxation.
